The tattooed mum-of-two has spoken out on controversial issues like abortion rights, prostitution, euthanasia and drug use.
Since her election earlier this year, Lynn has been making waves in the Seanad. But things haven’t always been smooth sailing for her as she divulged details of her own teen drug use. In a no-holds-barred interview with Hot Press, the senator revealed she turned to drugs when she was just 13 to help cope with the death of her friend. She said: “When I was around 12, I started to notice drugs . “And then I lost a friend when I was crossing the road, when I was 13. She was hit by a bus and she died. “And after that, nothing really made sense. Something changed in my thinking and it changed who I was – I felt I had to live very quickly in case what happened to Jenny happened to me.”
Ms Ruane came from a home where her dad was a footballer and a referee who lived a clean lifestyle and her mum would only drink on social occasions.
